There was a huge debate going on in the United States regarding approval of the booster shots for all adults. there was extreme pressure on the Federal Government and its medical agencies to expand the eligibility criteria for the booster shots.
CDC Approves Booster Shots Of Covid Vaccine For 18 And Above
Yesterday The US Food and Drug Administration allowed medical agencies and states to have booster shots for the citizens above 18. The CDC was yet to say yes to the decision made by the FDA after proper analysis of the data and results.
After the complete analysis of the data, The CDC decided to nod its head for yes and gave authorization to the Booster shots of Pfizer and Moderna for all the citizens above 18 years. The CDC Director, Dr. Walensky signed off the rule and the booster shots will be given to those who have got an initial vaccine shot at least 6 months before.
According to Dr. Walensky, it will help in curbing the covid 19 virus and increase the protection level in the entire nation.
A few states in the US already allowed their citizens above 18 years to have booster shots according to their needs. But CDC focussed more on people above 50 years to safeguard their lives as they have less immunity than youngs.
The CDC members voted for the decisions and came to the conclusion that people who are above 50 years of age must get the booster shot for extra protection and better immunity. While people who are above 18 and up to 49 need to determine whether they need a booster shot or not. The CDC has left the decision to avail booster shots on the adults and they themselves have to analyze the need for the booster shot.
On the other hand, The US Food and Drug Administration advocated that booster shots must be available and it will surely boost more people to take vaccination also. Dr. Peter Marks stated that the FDA has already analyzed all the available data and changed the eligibility of the booster shots reserved only for 65 years and above to every adult above 18 in the US.
Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated in front of the panel that, booster shots have been fruitful for the immunity of the people. It has shown positive results in people with almost no side effects. He also said that the winter season and Christmas holidays are heading allowing booster shots will be an important step in the favor of people to reduce the level of threat on their lives.
Earlier the Pfizer and Moderna booster shots were only available for the people of age 65 and above as they are the highly risked lot. The medical department is happy with the latest recommendations. Dr. Camille Kotton, Director of the Infectious Diseases Division at Massachusetts General Hospital, told the panel that the decision will be beneficial for the overall medical conditions of the state.
Dr. Anthony Fauci also stated earlier this week that the effectiveness of both vaccine doses has been questioned by the delta variant and now the situation demands something extraordinary. Booster shots can be a game-changer to fight Coronavirus.
